The fuel switch as you call it, is also known as an Inertia switch, Impact Switch or Fuel Cut-off Switch. It's purpose is to shut off the fuel pump in the event of an accident (impact). The only time one would need to be reset is when the car has been in an accident or someone deliberately tripped it. They can go bad but seldom do.

In nutshell, the steps are as follows: Locate and disconnect the fuel switch relay wiring harness in your car. Locate and splice the fuel switch relay wire. Decide on a location for your kill switch. Run wire to connect the kill switch to the fuel switch relay. Test it out!
